Grades 3 - 5 Field Trips
Are you looking for a way to engage your students in science activities that will support the Illinois state standards and district curriculum, while maintaining the wonder and fun your children love? The Orpheum offers curriculum that is built around some of the most interesting and important science topics. To schedule a field trip, call 531-3555. Additional scheduling, facility and payment information.
Students learn about how light can be transformed into the mechanical energy of motion by building and experimenting with their own mini solar powered car. Illinois State Standards: 11.A, 11.B, 12.C, 12.D, 13.B.
Students will probe the principles of magnetism and polarity through experimentation. Their investigation will lead to the identification of the key components of a magnet: it's poles, equator, and field. Students will also explore the interaction of magnets with other magnets, metals, and non-metals. Illinois State Standards: 11.A, 11.B, 12.D.
Meet Orpheum’s turtles, lizards, snake, tarantula, and roaches. Students will learn all about these animals including their diet, habitat, and adaptations. This session will emphasize the interactions between species and their environmental niche. Illinois State Standards: 12.A, 12.B, 13.A.
Students measure force using Newton springs to see how simple machines aid them in doing work. The program is brought to life by interactive exhibits about pulleys, ramps, levers, gears and wedges in our Castle Workalot exhibit. Students will be engaged in a scavenger hunt around the Museum to find simple machines in everyday life. 11.A, 11.B, 12.D, 13.A.
Tense Water Drops
Properties of water leading to surface tension will be explored through activities and experiments. Students will be exposed to exciting gravity-defying water tricks while learning the chemical principles working on the molecular scale. Illinois State Standards: 11.A, 11.B, 12.C, 13.
