Preschool Field Trips
Offering an affordable way to engage young children in science activities, our age appropriate field trips encourage the wonder and fun your children love. The field trips are taught by members of our education staff, who are experienced in bringing science to life in understandable and engaging lesson plans. To schedule a field trip, call 531-3555. A Bug’s Life
Explore the world of our planet’s creepy crawly creatures through storytelling, crafts, and play. Children will learn what is meant by habitat and community as they investigate the anatomy and life stages of insects including ants, spiders, and worms. Each child will do a craft to take home. Illinois State Standards: 12.A.ECa, 12.B.EC, 12.C.EC, 13.B.EC.
Dino Detective
Travel back to the time of the dinosaurs. Learn about what dinosaurs ate and how big they were. Weather permitting; students will become paleontologists in our outdoor dino dig and paleo-lab. Students will learn about how fossils were formed by making their own to keep. Illinois State Standards: 11.A.ECa, 11.A.ECb, 11.B.ECa, 12.A.ECa, 12.A.Ecb, 12.D.EC.
Clever Critters
Meet turtles, bearded dragons, snake, tarantula, and roaches that call the Orpheum home! Students will learn all about these amazing animals including diet, habitat, and adaptations.
